Kia ora my name's Amelia and I’ve been interning at MB. Just the opportunity to work in government especially at MB was just way too tempting. So the training and learning opportunities that were available through the internship were really amazing. So we had workshops about data modelling, systems thinking, and then my favourite which was the problem-solving workshop. So my project was to explore the labour market opportunities and barriers in a post-covid New Zealand.
So as someone who didn't come from kind of a traditional analytics background there's been such an awesome opportunity to dive into some real data. So we had so many opportunities to get involved in different areas at MB I helped write memos to go to our Minister, I suggested edits that were going to the iwi chairs forum at Waitangi. We had content sessions, I chaired Meetings. Yeah so you really just got involved in so many different areas it was really wonderful. The ARG programme has definitely affected my career plans.
So I went into this internship with kind of a general interest in government but I’m coming out with a really strong passion to help kind of foster innovation in New Zealand and just build a better New Zealand for everyone. I would definitely recommend this internship to any student that has this opportunity. You don't need to be a coding expert or a data wiz to do well and enjoy this experience.
